Wild Hope: Our Solstice Commitments Inspired by a Teenage Audre Lorde

Last week for solstice we gathered and worked with two teenage poem drafts by Audre Lorde. One is called “All Those” a fourteen year old dream of impact that Audre collaborates with us to make true. The other is “On Reading A Science Report On Life on Other Planets” the poem that she adapted and rebirthed as a biomythographical notebook poem snippet in Zami: A New Spelling of My Name. We made room in our hearts and our imaginations not only for Audre’s teenage self but for our own younger selves and the desires of every age of us. We made space for the dreams for our own lives and for our geopolitical times that seem in Audre words “so far—so far.” We wrote longings we had been resigned to never mentioning again and then we collectively wrote actions that we are taking as dreamers powered by wild hope.
